Yeast Infection in Children

By admin On 1 Comment

When children are born, their immune system is at a very weak stage. They have a completely sterile digestive system. There are no bacteria present in their intestines and the immune system has not been activated. Once they pass through the vaginal canal they are introduced to bacteria. The bacteria go to work in the digestive system setting up large colonies. It becomes necessary for probotic bacteria to provide the body with a first line of defense against bad bacteria.

When the child grows up, even the immune system starts strengthening, but it is only when they become adults that their immune system becomes fully strong. This is the reason why children as well as teenagers get infected by various diseases very easily. One such disease that is commonly seen in children is yeast infection.

Infant Yeast Infection

They appear in the form of red swollen tissues which are covered by cream or white colored patches, and can be seen in the mouth as well as in the genital and anal areas.

As good parents take their children to the doctors to have prescribed antibiotics to fight illnesses, this is the very action that is one of the major causes for yeast infections in children. This happens because antibiotics destroy good and bad bacteria within their body. When the antibiotics kill the good bacteria then the body will not have the proper balance of good bacteria for the digestive and immune system. With the absence of this good bacteria it allows the yeast fungus which is present in all individuals, to remain unchecked within the body. This situation allows for a higher percentage of yeast infection for children to occur.

Another usual cause for yeast infection is a high sugar intake found in commercial baby food formulas or unsweetened fruit juices. Cow milk, soy milk, rice milk, and goat mild can increase the total daily sugar intake to fungal growth stimulating levels. Switching a children’s diet to water until infections clear is a good idea.

How to Cure Yeast Infection

If the infection is found around the genital or rectal area, please change the diapers more frequently. Go bare bottom to air out for a while before changing to the next diaper. Try to keep your baby bottom clean and dry at all times.

Include leafy green food in their meals and avoid giving them high sugar food like cakes, sweets and soda drinks. Alternatively, you can include probiotics into their diet such as yogurt.

Minor yeast infection in children can be treated with anti fungal creams. If the problem still persists, you can try to treat their infection with natural remedies. Most of the time, natural remedies will work well for children and it has proven to have combat tough yeast infection found in children and moreover it is drug free, safe and cheap. Parents do not need to worry that the symptoms will come back again after weeks or months.
