One-Man-Bands are proliferating across the country and are making their mark on the live music scene.
What is a one-man-band? A one-man-band used to describe a man who played many instrument simultaneously. In our current digital age this of course is no longer the case. One-Man-Bands are generally keyboardists who uses auto accompaniment in conjunction with a keyboard and vocals to create a sound that would replace a live band. Drums, guitar, violins are just some of what you can expect to hear and the more sophisticated the equipment the closer they can get to the real thing.
As you can imagine, one-man-bands can afford you a great sound at a lower cost than a live band as only one musician is required. There are times when people will hire another musician (i.e. a saxophone or guitar) in conjunction with the keyboardist to give the music an even greater “live feel”.
One-man-bands are generally hired for smaller affairs such as engagement parties, bar/bat mitzvahs and small corporate events. One-man-bands are not as popular as dj’s and may be more difficult to find. People prefer them at times to dj’s since the vocals and music have more of a “live” feel and they can always take requests whereas a dj is limited to whatever music he has on hand. As great as a one-man-band is however, it can’t compete with the sound, feel and look of a full live band which can improvise a great deal more and get people up and dancing.
