How Do You Get a Yeast Infection?

The human body normally has bacteria and yeast and they play a symbiotic role in how our body works and regulating functions. Once there is an imbalance triggered by external factors, a yeast infection can occur. There are many types of yeast infections since they can occur in several parts of the body such as the foot, mouth, ears, nose, toenails, fingernails, gastrointestinal tract and genitals. Most infections can be caused by the Candida albicans type of yeast.

Some types of yeast infections are: oral yeast infection, skin yeast infection, systemic candidiasis, yeast infection in children, vaginal yeast infection and yeast infection in men. The symptoms are varied and may stem from the type of yeast infection.

Yeast infection symptoms in women

Women most typically develop genital yeast infection. Though this is not classified as an STD since Candida can be present in the vagina. Most yeast infections are caused by the yeast Candidia albicans. Some common causes are tight underwear, infrequent changing of liners, douches and sprays may cause high acidity levels and a diet high in sugar.

There are many symptoms that may manifest that it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start. The most common symptom is itching in the vagina and or vulvar area. Other symptoms may include: burning feeling, soreness, pain during urination or intercourse and you may also experience unusual discharge that looks like cottage cheese but does not have an odor. Yeast infection symptoms in men

Male yeast infections are not uncommon. Most men will go through life not knowing they had one. Common causes are diet, antibiotics, sex and contact with an infected partner. Males who have an unusually high wheat and corn diet and excessive alcohol and beer consumption are prone to yeast infections.

Aside from yeast infections in the gastro intestinal tract, most often penile yeast infection can be found on the skin of the penis. This is sometimes painful and men may also have this due to related health problem. Most think that white bumps on the skin of the penis or genital warts are a sign of a yeast infection.

The most common symptoms in men are: bloating, indigestion, constipation, flatulence, stiff shoulders or headaches, diarrhea, sexual dysfunction, chronic hives, jock itch and athlete’s foot. Symptoms may also include Arthritis, irritability, dry itchy, flaky skin, prostate problems, mood swings and fatigue. In severe yeast infections men can also experience the same symptoms that women have such as unusual discharge, itching and burning sensation and general uncomfortability. You may notice that intestinal problems are most common in yeast infections. Another symptom could be an unusual craving for sweets, pasta and starchy foods. Yeast thrive on this and the cravings are a response to that.
